These works are part of an ongoing series of small-scale sculptures.

Made from a grogged white porcelain clay, their designs are based on proportional relationships of simple geometries.

Each work is constructed by slotting together 2 or more planar elements to create a composite form.

I combine making methods of throwing and slab rolling, and use cutting to physically create void space. Scraping further refines the form and creates surface texture.

Each piece follows an attentive process over 6 weeks of slow drying and frequent turning, before being fired on a bed of sand to prevent warping.

After firing the clay takes on a ceramic strength.  The work is then further refined by polishing with diamond pads, to give a raw but light responsive surface.

The parts then slot together to complete the form.
