ESCAPING THE FRAME: CONVERSATIONS IN PAINT

Paintings Included in the online magazine soanyway Summer Issue: 15 Untitled No.15 - No.18

“Painting remains a viable and vital practice for 21st century artists partly through its capacity to remind us of the materiality of our world and the sensual qualities of our engagement with it, in the face of technologies that increasingly tend to emphasise the immaterial. Either through the act of painting, or by their responses to it using other means, the contributors to this issue remind us that painting can afford us the contemplative space in which to reflect on the relationship between its formalised artificiality and our everyday experience of the physical and virtual world.”

INFLUENCE OF STRUCTURES

“An exhibition which celebrates the influence of architecture on the work of four TEN artists.”

“The Aesthetica Art Prize is an annual celebration of contemporary art. The exhibition, which brings together this year’s talented finalists, invites you to explore, discover and engage with themes from our rapidly changing world – wide-ranging topics that include the ethics of representation, mass digitisation, globalisation, diasporic identities and the continuing threats posed by the climate crisis.”

NEGATIVE SPACE

Works included in new book “Negative Space - Trajectories of Sculpture in the 20th and 21st Centuries.”

“This monumental, richly illustrated volume from ZKM | Karlsruhe approaches modern sculpture from a spatial perspective, interpreting it though contour, emptiness, and levitation rather than the conventional categories of unbroken volume, mass, and gravity. It examines works by dozens of twentieth- and twenty-first-century artists, including Hans Arp, Marcel Duchamp, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Lygia Clark, Anish Kapoor, Olafur Eliasson, Ana Mendieta, Fujiko Nakaya, Tomás Saraceno, and Alicja Kwade.”
